Good Trouble Trumbull to Host Million Frog March in Warren

WARREN, Ohio — Good Trouble Trumbull will host a local Million Frog March on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon at Courthouse Square, 161 High St. NW, Warren, joining a nationwide and international day of action in solidarity with the Million Frog March at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Organizers describe the event as an "unfroggetable morning of serious activism with a joyful spirit," bringing together community members to support democracy, freedom of speech, environmental protection, and civic participation.

The march will feature creative signs, frog costumes, family-friendly activities, and opportunities for local residents to connect around the message that "Healthy ecosystems need healthy democracies."

The event takes place approximately six weeks before the 2026 midterm election and includes an encouragement for citizens to participate in the democratic process and vote.

According to organizers, frogs serve as important environmental indicators. Their decline can signal problems within ecosystems, making them a powerful symbol for environmental stewardship and public engagement. The event also highlights a history of frog imagery being used to represent peaceful, nonviolent activism and community action.

"Healthy ecosystems need healthy democracies," organizers said. "Together we can support a healthy environment, protect democratic freedoms, and encourage civic participation."

The gathering is open to the public. Costumes are welcome but not required.

August 14: Working-Class Town Hall in Youngstown/Lordstown, Ohio to Put Real Stories Behind the National Debate Over Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and Health Care Access

LORDSTOWN, OHIO: As the nation debates the future of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and access to affordable health care, working-class residents of the Mahoning Valley will gather Friday for a public town hall focused on what those policy debates mean in real people’s lives.

On August 14 the Mahoning Valley People’s Action Alliance (MVPAA) will host “Our Stories, Our Hopes, Our Shared Future,” its first Town Hall on the needs of the working class, at the UAW 1112 Hall, 11471 Reuther Dr., Warren, Ohio.

The event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 1:00 p.m., with community resource tables staffed by organizations including Direction Home of Eastern Ohio, Mahoning County Veteran’s Service, Trumbull County Veteran’s Service, Trumbull County Action Program, Mahoning Valley Solidarity Alliance and the League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown.

The formal program will run from 2:00–3:00 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer period and an opportunity for attendees to share their own experiences.

From policy debates to personal consequences

Norm Wernet, president of the Ohio Alliance of Retired Americans and facilitator of the town hall, said the event is intended to put a human face on programs that millions of Americans rely on.

“Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid were built because people in this country organized around a simple promise: after a lifetime of work, illness, disability or age should not erase a person’s health, well-being or dignity. We can work to ensure this promise is maintained for older Americans and delivered to the next generation, and we have to do it right now."

The town hall will feature personal testimony and perspectives from across the Mahoning Valley, including:

• A widowed retiree who is four years away from Medicare and struggling with rising ACA premiums and deductibles while waiting for a surgical procedure she cannot afford.

• The president of AFSCME Local 2026, the nurses’ union at Trumbull Regional Medical Center, discussing the human cost of the hospital’s collapse and the continuing need for affordable, high-quality health care in the Valley.

• A local physician providing a front-line perspective on affordability, access to care and the implications of an expanding health-care desert for Mahoning Valley patients.

• A 74-year-old Warren resident confronting a $145 monthly rent increase, deteriorating living conditions and the loss of services in her 55-plus housing community.

Organizers say these stories illustrate a larger question confronting communities across the country: What happens when the systems Americans depend on no longer provide security when people need them most?

The town hall will also provide attendees with information about concrete actions individuals and small groups can take in their communities. MVPAA organizers will offer assistance to people who want to pursue those actions or organize locally.

A birthday for Social Security

The event will take place on Social Security’s anniversary, and organizers will mark the occasion with birthday cake and refreshments.

Medicare at 61: Trumbull County Residents Rally to Reopen Warren Hospital

WARREN, Ohio — As Americans celebrate Medicare’s 61st birthday, Trumbull County residents will gather to honor one of the nation’s most important health-care programs—and to demand the restoration of hospital care in Warren.

The “Medicare at 61: Reopen Our Hospital” rally will take place Saturday August 1, 2026 from 10 am to 1:00 pm at 1350 E. Market St., Warren, OH, 44483  Residents, former hospital employees, health-care advocates, elected officials and other community members are invited to attend.

Medicare was created in 1965 with a promise: Older Americans should not be denied medical care because they cannot afford it. Sixty-one years later, that promise is incomplete when an entire community loses access to a full-service hospital.

Insight Hospital & Medical Center Trumbull is closed after Insight Health System surrendered its hospital operating license to the Ohio Department of Health in January 2026. The surrender followed months of operational interruptions, licensing problems and the suspension of emergency services.

The crisis began before Insight’s involvement. Trumbull Regional Medical Center and Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital were threatened with closure during the bankruptcy of their former owner, Steward Health Care. Insight Health System subsequently assumed control of the Warren facilities, presenting the acquisition as an effort to preserve local health-care services.

Instead, hospital operations were interrupted in March 2025. Insight briefly reopened the hospital in October 2025 but soon lost its federal provider agreement. Emergency services and active operations were suspended in November amid state concerns involving patient care and heating. In January, Insight surrendered the operating license, leaving the building’s future uncertain.

Hundreds of workers were laid off, patients lost nearby emergency and inpatient services, and families were left traveling farther for care. Former employees filed a federal class-action lawsuit alleging unpaid wages and violations of the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. Local, state and federal officials have also called for investigations into the handling of public funds, financial transactions and the circumstances surrounding the hospital closures. Read further

Trumbull County deserves answers—but it also urgently needs action.

Celebrating Medicare means defending the principle that health care is a public necessity, not merely a financial opportunity. Residents must stand together and insist that state and federal leaders help recruit a qualified, financially responsible and independent health-care system capable of reopening the hospital and restoring emergency, inpatient and other essential services.

On July 7, ICE agents shot and killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston while he was driving a work van with his crew. On July 13, ICE agents fatally shot Johan Sebastian Guerrero in Biddeford, Maine – his wife and 3-year-old daughter witnessed his murder. Lorenzo and Johan were devoted fathers and beloved members of their communities, killed on their way to work. Both men were immigrants to this country from Mexico and Colombia, respectively. Neither was the intended target of ICE activity.

This Sunday night, the Mahoning Valley Freedom Fighters will gather outside the Mahoning County Jail for a candlelight vigil. We're there for the people detained inside — our neighbors, pulled from their families and stripped of due process — and for every person across this country who has died in immigration custody.

We will light candles. We will speak their names. We will refuse to let them be forgotten.

Good Trouble Trumbull Hosts First Community Social at Warren Courthouse Square

WARREN, Ohio — Good Trouble Trumbull invites members, supporters, and all others interested in civic engagement across the Mahoning Valley to its first-ever Community Social on Sunday, July 5, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Courthouse Square, 161 High Street, Warren, Ohio.

The gathering is an opportunity for people from the Valley to connect, build relationships, and strengthen the bonds that have grown through months of civic engagement and peaceful public demonstrations. The social is intended to foster fellowship, learning, and mutual support among neighbors who care about civic participation and the future of the region.

The free public event is open to everyone—whether you have attended previous rallies or are meeting Good Trouble Trumbull for the first time.

 

Attendees are invited to share conversation and fun.  All are encouraged to bring snacks, games, non-perishable food donations for the community food drive benefiting the Second Harvest Food Bank, although bringing an item is entirely optional.

 

Organizers are holding the event at a time when many community members are concerned about the direction of the country, including what they view as threats to constitutional rights, democratic institutions, and long-standing American values.
